Tornado destroyed Joplin, Missouri, United States. Tornado storm in the City of Joplin, Missouri, United States damaged hundreds of buildings, including hospitals St. John's Regional Medical Center. Medical worker was notified just before the tornado, resulting in chaos for the evacuation process. The hospital were damaged, windows flew and medical equipment broken and could not be repaired anymore. The helicopter that was parked outside the hospital buildings also were destroyed. The same fate happened to the cars. Hospital patients were evacuated to other hospitals outside the region.
City management estimates the number of damaged buildings up to 2,000 buildings, including hospitals. Home Depot, Walmart, gas stations, and many other buildings were destroyed by the tornado. Various public facilities, such as electricity and phone went dead. Firefighters and health workers trying to rescue victims trapped in damaged buildings. Ambulances lined the streets to immediately help the victims trapped in collapsed buildings. Governor of Missouri, Jay Nixon, declared a state of emergency and warned there will be the next storm.
The tornado killed at least 116 people in Joplin, Missouri, Sunday (22/05/2011), reported by local media. Other reports said the death toll was at least 30 people and is expected to continue to increase. Tornado came on Sunday night that resulted in great destruction. This storm caused extensive damage in Missouri and will continue to cause significant risk to the life and property. Tornado may still be occurring in Missouri so that the public should stay alert and listen to weather information.
