Powerful earth quake rocks Japan, today. A tsunami has following the quake. USGS says 8.9 magnitude quake hits near east coast of Honshu, Japan at Friday, March 11, 2011 at 02:46:23 PM at epicenter. The quake was 24.4 km (15.2 miles) depth. The quake triggered a tsunami as high as 4 meters. The tsunami waves that washed away cars and tearing buildings along the coast near the epicenter.
At various locations along the Japanese coast, television show flooding, with dozens of cars, boats and even buildings are carried by water.
A large ship was swept by tsunami waves crashing directly into the breaker in the city of Miyagi Prefecture, according to recording on NHK. In other place quake triggered fire.
Meteorological Agency issued tsunami warnings for the entire Pacific coast of Japan. Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii said the tsunami warning applies to Japan, Russia, Northern Marianas Islands, and Marcus. Tsunami warning has been issued for Guam, Taiwan, Philippines, Indonesia (Sulawesi Utara,Maluku Utara, Papua) and Hawaii.
The United States government issued a tsunami alert warning to the Pacific West Coast and Hawaii on Friday (03/11/2011). Officials at the Tsunami Early Warning Centre for the Pacific region and Hawaii states, predicted tsunami occurred after the earthquake that will occur around 2:45 pm local time in the area of Hawaii, while on the West Coast will take place at 07:45 local time.
I saw the news on breaking news and I was staggered in seeing such huge wave reached inland. As a person who lives in the ring of fire region and have experienced earthquake (though much smaller in scale) and saw how devastating it was, I gotta say that what happened in Japan kinda scares me.
