Nintendo is not to be outdone by Sony's newest PlayStation Portable game console, Vita. Nintendo has introduced its newest game console. Its name is Wii U (pronounced We You), touch screen based portable game console, on Tuesday (06/07/2011) at Electronic Entertainment Expo, Los Angeles, USA and will be released on 2012. At first glance the shape and size of Wii U has similar style with iPad-style tablet with a 6.2 inch screen. Its navigation menu just like the Nintendo Wii including motion control, additional cameras, microphones, and speakers.
The Wii U screen provides high definition graphics quality and will offer a high definition resolution of up to 1080p via HDMI output. The Wii U uses internal flash-based media storage which is upgradeable via USB and SD Cards. The Wii U controller has a rechargeable battery.
You not only can play games directly on the screen. Through a wireless connection, game console is also able to function into the controller and the display screen can be presented in a larger LCD monitor. The Wii U enables its users to keep playing even if someone else wants to use the television screen. Nintendo Wii U can utilise existing controllers like the Wii Remote and Wii Fit Balance Board and is backward compatible with Wii software. It was also shown as a sniper-scope in a shooting game, and a sketch pad in a drawing application. Users can browse through photos on the touch-screen before flicking them onto the television screen for all to share.
Wii U supports multi-player games, it will let a player holding the tablet against others using Wii Remote. Players would have a unique view of the action similar to Pac-Man Vs. -Namco's GameCube classic which utilised the Game Boy Advance.
With the Wii U, experience in playing games will be more satisfied and more choices. You will see how to play a different games. Games in development for Wii U include Darksiders II, Lego City Stories, Batman Arkham City, Tekken, Dirt, Metro Last Light, Aliens Colonial Marines, Assassin's Creed, Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Online, and various EA Sports simulations. Its games will be available for online download and will also be distributed on a proprietary high capacity disc format.
The presence of Wii U, Nintendo would strengthen its position in the video game market. Nintendo is a video game console market leader in the U.S.. according to NPD data, Nintendo Wii has sold 35.5 million units, followed by Microsoft's Xbox 360 which sold 27 million units, then the PlayStation 3 from Sony, which sold 16.7 million units.
