Plutonium Detected in the Soil Near Fukushima Reactor

Tokyo Electric Power Co. (Tepco), the operator of the Fukushima reactors, said that plutonium has been detected in soil at five locations at the Fukushima nuclear power plant, Monday. The level of plutonium detected is ''not significant.'' The dose is not threaten human health. Source of the leak of plutonium is still mysterious and still being investigated by the Agency. Discovery of plutonium indicates specific damage in reactor fuel rods. Plutonium is a radioactive substance which more toxic than iodine 131 and cesium or other radioactive substances. Meanwhile, Tepco said that radiation levels found in ditch water outside the plant number 2 has passed the 1000 millisievert per hour (high level). Contaminated water is likely comes from the reactor core, where the fuel rods material have melted partially. TEPCO also said that the concentration of radioactive substances in a pool at the reactor's basement No. 2 was 100,000 times higher than normal for water in a re

Magnitude 6.5 Earthquake Hits Japan

Magnitude 6.5 earthquake rocks northeastern Japan on Monday morning, March 28,2011 at 07:24 AM at epicenter. There were no immediate reports of damage and victims from the quake. But the Japan's Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning -although a small tsunami- for the regions at Pacific coast. The tsunami waves estimated that only about 50 cm. The quake location at 38.402°N, 142.102°E ; 109 km (67 miles) E of Sendai ; 80 kilometers east of Oshika Peninsula in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan with a depth of 17.1 km (10.6 miles). Agency Withdrawn the Tsunami warning at 9:05 am. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) had earlier said the quake is magnitude 6.5 but later revised its power to M 6.1. Japan's agency said the quake is likely an aftershock of the massive earthquake that occurred on two weeks ago wuth M 9.0.

Australian F1 Grand Prix Results

Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull Racing) dominates when appearing to be a winner in the first series of F1 Grand Prix 2011 on Albert Park circuit; Melbourne, Australia. Even for being too dominant, Fernando Alonso said that Vettel like comes from another planet. Starting the race from pole position, Vettel managed to keep it until crossing the finish line. Red Bull driver was even superior to more than 20 seconds from Lewis Hamilton (McLaren), who finished behind him. But the surprise comes from Vitaly Petrov (Lotus Renault). Vitaly Petrov last season became the first Russians to compete in F1. This season he increased the level by becoming the first Russians to set foot on the podium. Vitaly Aleksandrovich Petrov has started the race in the F1 arena since 2010. At that season, his best achievement was finishing in the top five in the Hungary. Full Result 1. Vettel Red Bull-Renault 1h29:30.259 2. Hamilton McLaren-Mercedes + 22.297 3. Petrov Rena

Let's take a part in 'Earth Hour'

The earth we live in is getting old and weak. need awareness and cooperation to keep our earth remains sustainable. No matter how small our efforts if done continuously will be very meaningful. One is to follow the activities called 'Earth Hour' on Saturday 26th March 2011 at 8:30 - 9.30 PM (local time). Earth Hour is a global activity organized by the WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature, also known as World Wildlife Fund) and is held on the last Saturday in March every year which ask for homes and offices to turn off lights and electrical appliances (which are not necessary) during one hour to raise awareness on the need for action on climate change. Much electrical energy generated from the reactor that can produce a lot of air pollution. By turning off lights and appliances for one hour, then more energy can be saved pollution can also be pressed. Turn off electricity for one hour only a first step, we must make saving electricity as a way of life, the pattern of life i

The Yellow Rain in Kanto

Many people living in the Kanto had worried after seeing a yellow rain on Wednesday. Kanto is a region near Tokyo. Residents worried yellowish color caused by the effects of radiation originating from the damaged nuclear power plant located 220 kilometers north east of Tokyo. Japan Meteorological Agency received many reports of a yellowish residue contained on roofs and anywhere after the rain. According to the Ministry of Environment, air-borne pollen in large quantities were seen in the Kanto region. Pollen fell along with the rain. Health official at the Tokyo metropolitan gov said there is possibility that the rain contained radioactive material but in a level that does not endanger human health. Japan is currently in a nuclear emergency conditions after a nuclear power plant in Fukushima damaged by an earthquake and tsunami on 11 March. All residents within a radius of 20 kilometers from the Fukushima nuclear power plant was evacuated. A variety of products in the region, such as

Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant Situation is Still Very Difficult

Residents who live around the Fukushima nuclear power plant seems to stay longer in shelters after the earthquake and tsunami on March 11 and then damaged the nuclear power plant. The nuclear crisis is not yet clear when it will end. Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, Japan, yesterday was still in an unstable condition. Even there was reported radioactive steam out of the reactor numbers 1,2 and 3 when technicians tried to reduce pressure inside the reactor vessel. Hazardous substances, suspected leaked from a container of damaged nuclear fuel in reactors 1,3 and 4. The three reactors was damaged by fire due to explosion of hydrogen released by the reactor itself. However, the recovery of access to external electric power and decreasing the temperature in the reservoir of fuel, did show the condition of power began to improve. But overall, the reactor has not been stable and can leak more radiation. That's why power plant operators, Tokyo Electric Power Co.., ordered the engine

Japan's Nuclear Crisis

Japan has raised the level of crisis in the Fukushima nuclear power plant to level 5 from the previous level 4 on an international scale 7. This status is similar to the nuclear crisis that hit the Three Mile Island, United States, 1979. But it is still under the level of nuclear accident of Chernobyl, Ukraine, 1986. Spinach, milk and agricultural products in the area near Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant contaminated with nuclear radiation over the safe limit. Yukio Edano -Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary- said based on checks, the milk in the area of Fukushima and spinach grown in Ibaraki, radiation levels exceeded the limit. However Edano said radiation levels are not dangerous to human health and consumers were asked calmly. Japan's nuclear crisis has spread fear, not only for Japanese residents, but also citizens of the nearest countries. They are afraid with the nuclear radiation from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. The excessive fear, considering distance

Radiation Dose Limits

Actually, radiation is not only come from nuclear, but also from our environment. Radiation originating from natural is often called the background cosmos. Apart from nature, radiation can also come from medical treatment such as CT scans, X-rays, and so forth. Outside the background radiation, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has made a provision of radiation dose limit that can be received in a year. Japan has a limit of 10 miliSievert radiation dose (mSv) per year, while in Indonesia set 1 mSv for the general public within a year. If for reactor workers, radiation dose of 20 mSv is set for 5 years, but must not exceed 50 mSv in a year. Based on it, if you're in Japan now, you can perform a mathematical calculation. Like this, radiation on March 15, 2011 in Miyagi, Japan, for example, 0.18 mSv. So to achieve the recommended limits, there is still need 2600 days. Anyone who is in the environment with the risk of radiation exposure required to calculate the dose of rad

Supermoon

Super moon rare moments coming soon. For those of you who want to enjoy a warm shower moonlight take the time to go out right At 19:10 GMT. The Moon is really at the point closest to Earth (perigee). Approximately one hour a month is the period when the moon reaches full phase peak. A combination like this (perigee and full moon) to produce a phenomenon called supermoon and 18 years can only occur once. Called supermoon because the moon will be visible at night seven percent larger than ordinary full moon, or 14 percent bigger than the full moon when the moon in a position farthest to the earth. Super moon will light brighter 30 percent than of the full moon usually. Conditions that allow observers to enjoy the surface of moon and Saturn's as well as nearby. Crater moon will be seen more clearly. It would be better to enjoy supermoon with a telescope, but using a telescope which diameter is too big will only make the eyes glare. I would suggest, 10-20 cm diameter telescope, bin

Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant

Japan Self-Defense Forces helicopters dropped water on the troubled No. 3 reactor of the Fukushima nuclear power plant on Thursday morning as it is feared the reactor may have released radioactive steam due to damage to its containment vessel. Japan should quickly to prevent the disaster after fire swept a Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant , Wednesday. Fire in Japan's nuclear power plant raises threat of nuclear radiation. The incident was brought low radiation to Tokyo to push a number of people leaving the capital city and raised fears of nuclear crisis. Tokyo police, meanwhile, plan to use a water cannon truck to attempt to cool a spent fuel rod pool in a bid to contain the disaster at the troubled Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power station in Japan. In the unprecedented move, they aim to cool the possibly overheating pool of the No. 4 reactor to prevent the discharge of highly-concentrated radioactive materials. The building housing the No. 4 reactor suffered what appeared to b

Doughnut Phenomenon on the Sky

The phenomenon of doughnut-shaped appearance in the sky of Belgium was arrested by the weather radar recently. Previously, the same phenomenon has also been arrested in Australia in 2010. Doughnut on the sky? What's doughnut? Some people had expected it a UFO. But do not be afraid, because the Doughnut Phenomenon is common natural phenomenon caused by melting snow in the atmosphere. Marc Dantonio, photos and videos analysts from the Mutual UFO Network, said that the phenomenon is called a melting circle. This occurs in a wide area thus forming a ring-shaped anomaly. When capturing the image of melting snow, the radar could not capture an area located just above the antenna, called a "cone of silence". As a result, created a similar image of a doughnut with the middle that seemed hollow. Radar can only catch the outside of the region which can be reached, which is the outside of the doughnut. Meanwhile, the inside depending on the angle of the radar pointing to the sky. Do

Powerful Quake and Tsunami Hit Japan

Powerful earth quake rocks Japan, today. A tsunami has following the quake. USGS says 8.9 magnitude quake hits near east coast of Honshu, Japan at Friday, March 11, 2011 at 02:46:23 PM at epicenter. The quake was 24.4 km (15.2 miles) depth. The quake triggered a tsunami as high as 4 meters. The tsunami waves that washed away cars and tearing buildings along the coast near the epicenter. At various locations along the Japanese coast, television show flooding, with dozens of cars, boats and even buildings are carried by water. A large ship was swept by tsunami waves crashing directly into the breaker in the city of Miyagi Prefecture, according to recording on NHK. In other place quake triggered fire. Meteorological Agency issued tsunami warnings for the entire Pacific coast of Japan. Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii said the tsunami warning applies to Japan, Russia, Northern Marianas Islands, and Marcus. Tsunami warning has been issued for Guam, Taiwan, Philippines, Indonesia
